Toledo Metal Wheel Co, Bull Dog & Blue Streak Toys

The Toledo Metal Wheel Co started in 1887 and their main business was producing wheels for other company’s baby carriages. Eventually they started producing their own line of baby carriages and expanded their offerings with bicycles, wagons & pedal cars to name a few. In 1925 they introduced a new line of toy pull type AC Mack trucks under the Toledo “Bull Dog” & “Blue Streak” lines. Toledo produced these Mack trucks from 1925 to 1928. They are essentially the same toy as the American National Co “Giant” and “American” brand trucks produced from 1926-30. It is speculated there was a partnership or consolidation between these two companies around 1926 or it may simply be that Toledo sold the dies to American National for their truck production. Both of these companies stopped producing pull type trucks in 1928 and it is believed that the Gendron Wheel Co, also of Toledo purchased their dies and began making their own line of trucks under the Gendron “Sampson” brand. The Gendron trucks utilized essentially the same truck beds & chassis but introduced a completely new modern cab design. You can find out more about them by clicking on Gendron in the manufacturer list.
